Windows 7 Project
Well things are moving right along, we are wrapping up on the programs that we were able to test and starting to work on our presentation for the CIO of the University as well as many managing parties in ITS. Today I mainly went back through our paperwork to make sure we had all the programs logged and the information in a format that would make it easy for us to put into the presentation. We have a group meeting tomorrow during class to discuss our plans so this will make things a little more efficient.

Windows 7 Project
Today I spent time creating sheets for us to log programs with, this way we have something where each tech can write out what program they are working with, which system they were on and any issues that might have occurred while working with it. After that I spent time working with XP mode in Windows 7, I installed Open Office in it and worked with a lot of the features to see how it would react and to see if it felt like there was any difference using it in the Virtual environment compared to the regular. Honestly I had a hard time noticing any difference what so ever. The only reason I did notice a bit is because we only have 1GB of RAM installed in the system I'm using and of that XP mode has been allocated 256MB so there was a bit of stalls here and there but nothing too bad. All and all it was a good experience.

SIUE ITS
Today we continued work on the three dell machines from last week, again from last week we have a laptop that needed to be clean up and updated. Second was a regular tower that the user had forgotten her password and had viruses on and finally third another tower that the Windows/system32/config file had been corrupted on.
The laptop was fairly simple, we physically cleaned the machine and then ran updated malware and anti-virus software on it, afterward we installed office 2007 for the user and it was good to go.
The second machine we used a UNIX program to rewrite the password for windows xp and got through that, we updated the anti-virus software and cleaned it off, we also updated the drivers on the system for the user.
The third machine was a little more difficult, I tried the repair the system32/config file through the recovery console using the windows xp professional install disc but it wouldn't take. We ended up copying the files off to another hard drive and reinstalled windows on the machine and copied the users files back over.

SIUE ITS
Quick day today, we got three dell machines to work on first a laptop that needed to be clean up and updated. Second was a regular tower that the user had forgotten her password and had viruses on and finally third another tower that the Windows/system32/config file had been corrupted on.
Didn't get the machines till late but was able to start virus scans on the the laptop and the first tower and will finish these up when I'm back in next week if they aren't fixed by any of the other interns by then.

Windows 7 Project Update
Went in today and worked on the systems for a little bit, unfortunately the power went out this morning and I wasn't able to keep working, I waited for about 45 minutes before having to leave to go take care of other things. Got some updates done to the systems before the power outage and scanned the systems with antivirus software. Should have a complete list of software to test on the systems by Monday so we'll have a better understanding of the scope of the project. Currently we are looking up some of the Windows 7 Deployment guides to lay a foundation for our testing plan.

Windows 7 Project Update
We've started our project of checking out the school's software on Windows 7 platforms. We've set up 4 computers, 2 running 32-bit and 2 running 64-bit software. So far we've installed XP mode,Office 2007, Open Office, Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3.6 and Google Chrome 4.0. I spent 2 hours yesterday running through SIUE's website forms for their students to make sure everything worked okay in IE 8 since we had been told that there had been previous problems. So far I've been able to find no problems running the forms, filling them out and sending them so I believe they have been resolved. The forms only work in Internet Explored because of a plug-in specifically designed for it but the 32bit and 64bit forms worked fine. After that I went through and updated Windows and Microsoft Office 2007 through windows update before leaving.
